ELECTRIC UTILITY GROUNDMAN

The Town of Belhaven seeks to fill the position of Electric Utility Groundman.  This is a supervised position in the electric utility department.  Work performed will be assisting in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electric distribution lines. Opportunities for advancement and continuing education are available to the person hired in this position.

POLICE OFFICER (2 positions)

Police officers perform a full range of general law enforcement duties in the patrol division.  Work includes patrolling the Town during a shift in a police car, on foot, by bicycle, or other appropriate means preventing, detecting and investigating disturbances and crime; investigating traffic accidents, helping victims, and performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; testifying in court; and executing related assignments.  Employees must exercise judgment, initiative and calm control when performing duties, but more difficult problems are normally carried out under the direction of or in conjunction with the supervisor. Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness, and decisiveness. 

Graduation from high school and must have or be able to obtain BLET certification; experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employee must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's license and have completed at least the minimum requirement established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council for certified law enforcement officers.

Electric Line Worker First Class

This is a skilled position that requires two or more years’ experience as Electric Line Worker 2nd Class with municipal or private sector high voltage electrical distribution systems. Requires drug testing and background check prior to employment. Pay is based on experience and qualifications. Belhaven provides an excellent benefits package.  Hiring range: $41,000 to $51,000 based on qualifications.

Public Works Maintenance Worker

Part-Time Seasonal (2 positions) and Full Time (1 position)

Performs a variety of tasks involving manual labor, use of hand tools, light equipment operation, general street maintenance, primarily weed eating and mowing, and other duties as assigned.  25 hours per week for Part-Time.

Pay: $8.75/hour

PART TIME SEASONAL WORKER – RECREATION

Serves as FIELD ATTENDANT for spring and summer recreation programs. Provides all necessary equipment for the games to the score/timekeeper and game officials, Makes certain that fields are set-up and broken down properly, and inspect the playing area to ensure the field is safe for competition, and other duties as assigned.  Work is performed on nights and weekends; hours vary; 10-15 hours per week.

Pay: $8.75/hour
