Town of Belhaven Selects New Police Chief

Belhaven, North Carolina, 4/01/2024 - The Town of Belhaven Police Department proudly announces the appointment of Wesley Waters as the new Chief of Police, effective 4/15/24.

With an illustrious career spanning 22 years in law enforcement, Waters brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a commitment to community service to our department. Waters most recently served as the Captain of Criminal Investigations with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department.  He began his early career here in Belhaven as a rookie officer before moving on to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Mayor Ricky Credle expressed his optimism about the future of Belhaven’s Police Department. “The Town Council put a lot of time into this decision.  We are confident in the direction Waters will lead our police department, ensuring continued safety and protection for all of the citizens of Belhaven.”

Throughout his career, Waters has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety, crime prevention, and community engagement. His innovative approaches to law enforcement have earned accolades and admiration from both within and outside the department. As our new Chief of Police, Waters will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all residents, foster trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the community, and lead the department with vision and integrity.

In assuming the role of Chief of Police, Waters expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Belhaven community, the community where he was raised, and pledges to work tirelessly alongside the officers and staff of the Belhaven Police Department. His leadership and experience will undoubtedly inspire and empower our department to excel in its mission of protecting and serving with honor and compassion.
